Happy 100th day of school!

Today, we celebrated our 100th day of first grade! We made 100th day headbands with several different ways of making 100 (coins, addition facts, tally marks, etc.), which we are sporting in the photos above. We also read and wrote 100th day books, played math games with the number 100, and wrote about what we would buy for someone else if we had 100 dollars. The students were so excited during all of our calendar activities when they were able to finally reach this exciting three digit number!

High Touch High Tech Matter Experiments

Last week, we enjoyed having scientist Emma visit us from High Touch High Tech for our in school field trip exploring Matter. Here we are experimenting with the special crystals we were able to grow with colored water!

Royal Reader!

On Friday, another Royal Reader surprised us and read "Arthur's Valentine" to the class!

Math games online!

Don't forget about our online component of Everyday Math! Your child can login to the website to play interactive games that are based on the games we've been learning in class. Today we spent some time in the computer lab practicing the Penny-Nickel-Dime exchange game. If you visit the games page, that particular game is listed in the category "Money Exchanges". If your student does not have the card I sent home early in the year with the login and password, please let me know, and I will give them another copy! They had a great time playing this game today, and it is a fabulous way to squeeze in a little extra math practice at home. Check out the link below to login (this link can also be found on my website, under "Links").

If your child is interested in entering this contest, he or she can bring the design to school and I will turn the designs in to Dr. Jares. Entries are due by March 15th.

Another great Fugleflick to check out!

Mrs. Fuglestad is always working on something exciting in the art room, and this latest project is no exception! Check out the video below to see our class and their artwork featured in her movie about Visual Texture.
