High Touch High Tech In School Field Trip

On Friday, a scientist from High Touch High Tech visited us to give the students the opportunity to do some exciting experiments with matter! First, we did an experiment with a golf ball, a balloon, and a cup of water to explore and conclude that all matter takes up space. Next, each student was given a set of crystals, a pipette, and colored water to perform a physical change with the crystals. (These are the crystals that were sent home with the note explaining how you can perform this physical change over and over again!) Then, we experimented with baking soda, colored water, vinegar, and soap to perform a chemical change. Finally, the scientist used baking soda and vinegar to create a gas that blew up a balloon on the top of a beaker! The students were VERY excited about this particular experiment. The last experiment was to create a density bottle, where we used corn syrup, water, and oil to understand how liquids vary in density. Below are a few pictures from our experience. I heard many students proclaiming, "This was the best day EVER!" as they were heading to lunch on Friday!
